Hands down, Chiang Mai has some of the best vegan food in the world, but who would have thought? It’s kind of random, but many people would agree with this sentiment.
If you’re in town, looking to try something new and experience the magic of being plant-based, then you’ve come to the right place.
With mouthwatering cuisines, and a variety of food — it’s paradise for vegans. And even if you’re someone who eats meat, these yummy dishes won’t disappoint you.
So, get ready to have your mind blown away. From western, Mexican, to authentic Thai food — Chiang Mai has it all!
As an expat who’s lived in Chiang Mai for almost two years, I can tell you—these are the 5 best Vegan restaurants the city has to offer.
After taking a stroll in Old City, you might want to wind down and have a good meal. This is definitely the place to. They don’t call it Goodsouls for nothing. Something about this restaurant leaves people feeling so full (soulful). From their smoothie bowls to their tasty cashew fettucine, the menu has something to satisfy whatever you’re craving. What’s dope is the balance between western and Thai food.
I love it so much that my friends and I make it a weekly habit to come here. I recommend trying out the mango lassi, the mushroom burger, and the pancakes.
Another gem in the heart of old city. If you’re looking for vegan and cheap Thai food, this is the place to go. All their dishes are under 80 baht ($2.50) and it’s a nice local place to check out.
The best dishes here are all their curries — green, red, khao soy, massaman, etc. The service is fast too, since it’s a small shop with a cozier feel.
Pure Vegan Heaven
Not to be confused with Vegan Heaven in old city. This spot is about 15 minutes west of town, but worth the trek to get there. A twist between Mexican and brunch food, made with love.
Everything about the food screams FRESH! The teas, smoothies, burrito bowls, and wrap—it’s all good.
All I want to know is what secret V has been keeping, because this food is THEBOMB.COM. I found this food stall at Ploen Ruedee Night Market and can say hands down is the best stall there. Although it is Thai Food, she adds her own uniqueness to each dish.
You can get two dishes for 110 baht ($3.50) or three for 150 baht. Giving you the opportunity to try the curry, salads, or appetizers. I legit come here every week and savor each bite I take.
Vegan “Jay” Place
Although it’s not called Vegan place, I don’t know the name—it’s in Thai. What I can tell you is to look out for a yellow sign that resembles the number 17. (it means vegetarian)
I come here every time I’m in Santitham and always leave a happy camper. You can get one dish and rice for 30 baht ($1), two dishes and rice for 35 baht, or three dishes and rice for 40 baht.
I’m convince this food is medicinal because I leave feeling ten times better. The setup is buffet style, so you can choose any dishes you like. You can never go wrong — everything tastes heavenly.
During my time in Chiang Mai, I’ve tried plenty of plant-based restaurants, but I religiously go to these 5. They offer outstanding quality, fresh ingredients, reasonable prices, and cool vibes. If you’re in ever in town, try these out!
